About

Serenity Funeral Home and Serenity Gardens Memorial Park are designed for you and your family's comfort, even in the most difficult of times. The families we serve find our facilities and highly trained staff warm, welcoming and especially uplifting.

A casually elegant funeral home

Reception room at Serenity Funeral HomeLocated in southwest Largo, in the heart of Pinellas County, on Indian Rocks Road, Serenity Funeral Home strives to be unlike other funeral homes. Designed with the casual elegance of your favorite beach retreat, the funeral home is spacious, comfortable and built for groups both large and small. Our goal is to meet every family’s unique needs.

Life Celebration Hall has a rock wall, a drop-down screen and 6 flat-screen TVs, a living room area and a catering area. Set with round tables, it seats about 100 people. Fully decorated for your event, it rivals any hotel ballroom.

Serenity Library has built-in custom cabinetry that accommodates a casket and 2 flat-screen TVs for a multimedia presentation—or a favorite movie. It seats about 50 people at round tables and is ideal for a memorial service followed by a catered event. It, too, positively captivates when professionally styled for an event.

For private family goodbyes, the intimate Founders’ Suite holds about 15 people. We can set it up as elaborate or as simple as you wish.

Celebrating Life Like No Other

Water feature at Serenity Funeral HomeThe team at Serenity Funeral Home and Serenity Gardens Memorial Park believes that every memorial service should be as unique as the individual it honors. Our philosophy is that each event—whether a cremation with a mimosa toast, a traditional funeral or a sports-themed reception with a buffet lunch—should deeply reflect the personality and passions of a loved one.

We love discovering what mattered most to someone and designing a service filled with surprise and delight. From a butterfly release to a barbecue, a motorcycle procession to a musical tribute, the list of what we can do is literally endless.

Please contact us if you need immediate assistance planning a funeral or would like more information about our services.

Serenity Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery

Situated on 38 acres of a former orange grove, Serenity Gardens Memorial Park is undoubtedly one of the more beautiful cemetery properties you will ever see. Known for its lush landscaping, wildlife habitat, 7-acre lake and the George and Ann Sturgeon Memorial Rose Garden, the cemetery captures the imagination and inspires visitors to linger.

With a history that dates back to 1859, stately mausoleums and sweeping green gardens, the cemetery is a respected place of remembrance for 1000s of people of various social, cultural and religious backgrounds. Tall tropical trees, colorful flowering bushes, graceful statuary and bubbling fountains that can be seen from almost anywhere in the cemetery make this perennially pretty property a feast for both the eyes and the heart.

Memorial options for all

Burial options at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park include in-ground interment, above-ground entombment or inurnment. We are happy to say that we offer an accommodation for every family’s tradition and budget on our meticulously manicured property.

Families choosing cremation can consider our scattering garden, a cremation niche or a cremation memorial bench.

Mausoleum at Serenity Funeral HomeThere are indoor and outdoor mausoleums with crypts and columbaria. The Lakeside Mausoleum is flooded with natural light during the day and always air conditioned for comfort in hot Florida weather. It includes a beautiful chapel for committal ceremonies.

A large group might also opt for the Gathering Room, which is in our cemetery building. One whole wall of French doors lets in lots of natural light; the doors open onto a covered patio overlooking our gorgeous cemetery gardens. It can be especially inviting in winter to open all the doors and have a small band playing on the patio.

The Rose Garden Estates in the renowned George and Ann Sturgeon Memorial Rose Garden are exclusive burial sites for large upright gravestones with their own flowering bushes. Most other areas of our cemetery accommodate flat granite markers or bronze-on-granite memorials. Our children’s garden is home to the only Angel of Hope in Pinellas County.

George and Ann Sturgeon Memorial Rose Garden

As a couple, George and Ann Sturgeon planned to create a memorial rose garden for their community to enjoy. Both were passionate rose lovers who were officers and board members of the Pinellas Rose Society. When Ann died in 1979, she was interred at Serenity Gardens. George felt there would be no better time or place to follow through on their plans. The cemetery donated the lakefront property for the garden, and a nonprofit was formed to fund and operate the garden.

The George and Ann Sturgeon Memorial Rose Garden opened at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park on April 4, 1981. Today it is Florida’s 3rd-largest rose garden. Recognized by the National Rose Society, the garden hosts more than 450 bushes in 131 varieties. The cemetery employs a full-time rosarian to care for the plants, and people come from far and wide to admire the flowers—pink, red, yellow and white blossoms with names like Table Mountain and Strike It Rich.

The garden is the site of our Easter sunrise service, as well as a popular location for weddings and outdoor brunches. The cemetery’s Rose Garden Estates are exclusive burial estates for large gravestones with their own flowering bushes.

Angel of Hope

Inspired by Richard Paul Evans’s book, The Christmas Box, the Angel of Hope monument serves as a place of healing and connection for parents who have lost children. There are around 150 Angels of Hope in cemeteries in the United States. Each December 6, parents gather at the angels for a vigil in honor of precious people lost too soon.

Vonnie and Tom Schaffer of Indian Rocks Beach raised money to bring an Angel of Hope to Pinellas County in memory of their son, Michael, who died in 2013. Serenity Gardens Memorial Park donated the land and some funds for the 4-foot-tall winged tribute, which watches over our children’s garden.

History

Exterior entrance to building at Serenity Funeral HomeSerenity Gardens Memorial Park was established in 1964 as an addition to the Anona Pioneer Cemetery, a property that dates back to 1859, before the city of Largo was incorporated. The original cemetery is now part of Serenity Gardens, which sits on 38 acres of a former orange grove. Clearly marked, the Anona Pioneer Cemetery section is meticulously maintained to preserve the legacy of the founding fathers of the community.

In April 1981, the George and Ann Sturgeon Memorial Rose Garden opened at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park. The garden, which the Sturgeons planned together and George established at Serenity after Ann died in 1979, is recognized by the National Rose Society and is the 3rd-largest rose garden in Florida.

The funeral home opens

Located on Indian Rocks Road, Serenity Funeral Home was formerly Moss Feaster Serenity Gardens. One of Florida’s more respected funeral homes, it dates back to 1932, when Jack and Ann Moss founded the Moss Funeral Home. Brothers George and Thomas Feaster opened their Feaster Memorial funeral homes in Largo in the 1960s. The 2 funeral companies merged in 1985 to become Moss Feaster Funeral Homes.

A legacy lives on

The name of the Moss Feaster Funeral Homes location at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park was changed to Serenity Funeral Home, but the reputation for high standards and exceptional service carries on. Ensuring that promise to Largo families, George himself remains active in the business to this day.

Because Serenity Funeral Home and Serenity Gardens Memorial Park are members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, they provide the caring, familiar attention you expect from locally operated establishments but also the features, benefits and value you deserve.
